Scrub and Shine Your Apartment Using These DIY Cleaners
If your cleaning cabinet is stocked with storebought products that contain harsh chemicals, you might not be doing your body or the environment a favor by cleaning up around the apartment. Instead of relying on these potentially toxic cleansers, mix up your own DIY versions using natural ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.
- All-Purpose Cleaner. When you need a cleaner to quickly spray down the kitchen counter or wipe up a spill on the coffee table, this simple all-purpose cleaner should do the trick. It consists of a mix of one and three-fourths cups of distilled water, one cup of white vinegar, and a quarter-cup of castile soap with the optional addition of 20 to 30 drops of tea tree oil for scent.
- Wood Cleaner. If you're searching for an easy-to-make polish for your wooden furniture, this is it. Its base is a quart of warm water, to which you add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and a single tablespoon of white vinegar. The resulting polish is effective and surprisingly potent.
- Glass Cleaner. Those bathroom mirrors and living room windows aren't going to clean themselves. Blend together this natural glass cleaner to shine them up with ease. All it requires are two cups of water, a half-cup of white or cider vinegar, and a quarter-cup of rubbing alochol—plus a drop or two of orange essential oil if you happen to have it on hand.
