How to Create a Home Workspace That’s As Stylish As It Is Functional

Whether you telecommute to your job or work for yourself as a freelancer, many more people are switching to a home office these days. Even if you don't have a whole separate room to dedicate to an office, there are ways to make your home feel functional, cozy, and conducive to a productive day's work. Here are just a few tips for creating a stylish home office just about anywhere.

  • Map out the space. First, you'll need to figure out the best place for your office. If you have a spare bedroom, that's the obvious choice, but you might also block off a corner of the living room, an empty wall in your bedroom, or even a nook in the hallway.
  • All it takes is a desk. Choose a desk that plays double-duty as a dining table if you're short on space, or even install a foldaway desk that you can tuck away when it's not in use. If you have the luxury of space, there are a number of stylish desks to choose from that feature drawers, upper consoles, and spaces to tuck away cords.
  • Invest in a good chair. It's no secret that sitting at a desk all day isn't great for your back, so invest in a comfortable, supportive office chair that won't leave you feeling creaky after a day's work.
  • Add some personal touches. Decorate your desk with framed photos, knick knacks, or air-cleansing house plants to add some ambiance to your workspace.
  • Keep things organized. Finally, get your materials together by adding pencil jars, file folders, and desktop organizers that create a space for everything.
