How to Exercise in Your Apartment

When you don't have time to make it to the gym, that doesn't mean you have to skip your workout altogether. You can get a good exercise session even within the confines of your apartment. Here are a few tips to create a quick and easy fitness routine with limited space.

  1. Keep it simple. When you're at the gym, you can use as many of the machines and weights as you like. But at home, you're better off keeping your routine relatively simple. Stow a kettlebell or a resistance band somewhere out of the way, but limit your at-home routine to this equipment only.
  2. Use your own body weight. You don't even really need a kettlebell in order to torch calories. When you're working out in a small space, sometimes it's helpful to use your own body weight to build strength. Moves like planks and lunges create resistance without the addition of any extra weight.
  3. Incorporate some cardio. It's easy to do some strength-training in a small space, but what about cardio? You may not be able to run laps, but you can still perform cardio moves like high knees, punches, and kicks in order to get your heart rate up.
  4. Work with what you've got. Instead of seeing your walls and furniture as impediments to your workout, use them to take it to the next level. Enlist them for support as you challenge yourself to new yoga poses or hold a squat until you have glutes of steel.
