As shared by the American Psychological Association, improvements in cognitive and mental health, as well as emotional well-being, may occur just from being in nature. According to one of the studies mentioned, it’s possible that these benefits can be experienced in as little as two hours of weekly fun outside. Located approximately 15 miles north of downtown Cincinnati, Winton Woods park is the perfect place to nourish your health while enjoying some of your favorite outdoor activities. The hours are sure to fly by when you participate in any of the following ways to enjoy nature at Winton Woods!
- Explore the trails. Whether you want to wander in awe of huge oak trees and lake views or engage in the exercise stations and wildlife watching, choose from multiple trails within Winton Woods park. With several different options, it’s easy to find the right trail type, length and level appropriate for you or your entire park party. You might also plan to enjoy a picnic or play a game of basketball in addition to your trail walk or any other park activity.
- Go horseback riding. Want to learn how to ride a horse or go on a trail ride? Winton Woods park is also home to a Farm & Equestrian Center. Throughout the year, both adults and children can enjoy riding lessons, which are tailored to a range of skill levels. In the warmer months, guided trail rides are available and open to the public. If you have your own horse, then you might want to explore the horse trail for use by public trail riders. Please note that there are accompanying fees for lessons and guided trail rides.
- Plan some time for tee time. In addition to the Farm & Equestrian Center in Winton Woods park, you’ll find not one but two different courses at which to play golf or get in some practice! The nationally-recognized and ranked Meadow Links & Golf Academy features a practice facility with covered and heated practice tees and a 9-hole course. Be sure to check out their specials to find options for reduced rates as well as free play or practice opportunities! The other option for golf enthusiasts is to play a round at The Mill Course, an 18-hole course. There’s also an 18-hole disc golf course in the park!
- Spend the day on the water. At the boathouse at Winton Woods Harbor, you can rent a variety of equipment, from mini-pontoon boats and motorboats to stand-up paddleboards and single or tandem kayaks. If you already have your own licensed private kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards, then there is a launch ramp available for use during certain months. Whether in a rented row boat or from the banks of the lake, you might also choose to spend a few hours fishing in this location (with the necessary license). While there is no beach or swimming at Winton Woods Lake, Parky’s Ark is a wet playground available to younger kids for a fee. There is also a more traditional playground. If you are feeling hungry after all of that paddling, play or relaxation, stop by the snack bar for a treat (hours vary by season).
- Go camping! At Winter Woods Campground, you can camp during the winter as well as in the warmer months. Here, you’ll find several rustic cabins, as well as many RV and tent sites. To get into the seasonal or Halloween spirit, Creepy Campouts are a popular weekend experience. In addition to the available features and amenities at this lakeside campground and throughout the park, you and your fellow campers can enjoy trick-or-treating, campsite decorating contests and other festive fun during these special weekends!
